August Barna Named Principal of Oneida High School

Oneida Special School District is pleased to welcome August Barna as the new principal of Oneida High School, starting Monday, October 19.
August brings more than 20 years of experience in public education. She has served as a teacher, instructional leader, assistant principal, and academy principal. Throughout her career, she has focused on building strong relationships, supporting teachers, and creating a school where students can thrive and staff feel supported.
August holds a master's degree in education from the University of Tennessee and K–12 administrative licensure from Carson-Newman University. She believes clear communication is a form of kindness and respect, and that strong schools are built through relationships, high expectations, and a real connection to the community. She is married to Oneida High School graduate Jimmy Barna.
"I'm grateful for this opportunity and excited to become part of the OHS family," said Barna. "I look forward to getting to know our students, staff, and families, and building on the good things already happening here."
"With the experience she brings, bringing August into our Oneida family was an easy decision," said Kelly Posey-Chitwood, Interim Director of Schools. "She has a personal connection to this community and a real reason to invest in our staff and students. Her experience speaks for itself, and her mentors have nothing but great things to say about her as a professional."
Johnathon Elliott, Oneida Middle School Assistant Principal, will also serve as assistant principal for Oneida High School for the time being. We thank him for taking on both roles during this transition.
Please join us in welcoming August to the Oneida family!
