Homeschooling
Welcome to the Oneida Special School District's online resources page for home school students. If you are choosing to independently home school your child and you live within the boundaries of the Oneida Special School District, you must first complete the Intent to Home School form and submit it along with your high school diploma/GED, and the child's immunization records to the district's Home School Coordinator. If you do not reside within the boundaries of the OSSD, you must contact the school district in which you reside. You must register with your partner school district each year prior to the beginning of the school year or prior to beginning homeschooling your child. All documents may be emailed or mailed to the addresses below.
NOTICE to PARENTS: If you live outside the OSSD boundaries and decide to withdraw you child during the school year to home school, you will not be able to re-enroll your child at OSSD until the next school year, unless you make a physical residence move inside the OSSD boundaries.

Independent Home School
Parents choosing this educational option should begin by contacting the local school district. The parent will be required to complete an Intent to Home School form and provide evidence of a high school diploma or GED. Student attendance (at least 4 hours per day, 180 days per year) must be reported to the local school district at the end of the school year. Testing of independent home school students is required in grades 5, 7, and 9 and coordinated through the local school district.
Accredited Online School
Parents may also enroll their child in an accredited online school. Parents choosing this educational option must be sure to determine that the school has legitimate accreditation status and will be required to provide evidence to the local school district that their child is enrolled in an accredited online school. Check with your online school provider to determine if they will request records from your child's previous school or if they will notify OSSD that your child is enrolled in their online school. If so, you do not need to complete an Intent to Home School form.
Church-Related Umbrella School
By authority of the same statute, parents may also home school their own children by registering with a church-related "umbrella" school defined by Tennessee Code Annotated § 49-50-801. Parents who choose this option will be required to provide evidence to the local school district that their child is enrolled in a church-related school. An Intent to Home School form is not required for students who enrolled in a church-related school. The church-related school will determine record keeping and test requirements for students enrolled in an umbrella program.
