Each nine weeks
students will be
assigned a project.
Information for
each project will be given to the students at the
beginning of the
grading

please encourage your
child to do
his/her best on

BOOK IN A …………………..
·
After
reading your book, you will select a book report container. The container can be a plastic bag, a manila
envelope, a can, a shoebox, or anything else that might be appropriate for your
book. You will decorate your container
to convey some of the major details, elements, or themes found in your book.
·
Contents of
your container will be the following:
a. Questions
You will
write ten
questions
based
on the book. Five of
the
questions will be about
general content. Five other
questions
must require
more
thinking.
b. Vocabulary You will create a
ten-word
glossary of unfamiliar
words from
your book.
c. Items You will include five items
that
have a connection to
the
story.
·
The final
part of the project is your presentation.
You will present your “Book in a …………” to the class. You must explain the connection of the
container to the story, tell about the five items you included, and then share
information about three of the book’s literary elements – setting, characters,
conflicts, climax, or resolution.

BIOGRAPHY CARD AND
POWERPOINT PRESENTATION
You will
create a biography card for an
individual of your choosing. Directions and
requirements for creating the card and the
presentation are below.
You will also use
the same information to create a
PowerPoint
presentation about your
individual.

biographical information can be found
on the internet. I will be
taking you to the

Instructions for creating your

choose the type of layout you want for each slide.
vTo create a
new slide, go to Insert on the menu bar and click on new slide.
vTo format

Any of these slides can contain pictures

The project for this nine weeks is
a
student-created anthology,
or
collection of
poems. The students
will work in
groups to compose their
own anthology. They will be given
time in class
to work on this. They
will also be going to the computer lab
to type their final drafts. The
following is a list of the types of
poems that will be
included in their
anthologies:
Couplet Quatrain Haiku Cinquain
Diamante Acrostic
I Am Poem by any poet
Picture
Book
You and your group will be creating
your own picture book.
It must be about our Appalachian
culture.
The book must have a front and back
cover. BE
CREATIVE and
COLORFUL!
Your book must contain pictures on
every page – this is a PICTURE book!
Your book must tell a story – It must
have a beginning, a middle, and an
end. It
needs to have a plot. It can
teach a lesson or tell how characters
live and relate to one another. I do
not want a SENSELESS story (one
that doesn’t tell the reader anything)!

Each day
the students will begin my
Class by reading a page in the reading
journal and answering
questions
about the reading selection. We will
grade each
selection every day,
however, I will only record one of
these grades each week. The
students will not know which
selection I will take for a grade.
Hopefully, this
will encourage them
to do their best each day.

Each day
the students will be given
vocabulary words and their
definitions that
they will write in
their journals.
Every other Friday
they will have a vocabulary quiz on
these words. They
will be able to use
their journals on these quizzes, so
this should be an easy 100 quiz
grade!

Every other
Friday the students will
go over specific spelling rules and
complete assignments pertaining to
