Several room rules have been established. If a student chooses to break a rule, two points are deducted
from the total deportment grade. Each child’s
grade is recorded on an individual chart.
For example, an E would be on a scale from 100-94. Therefore, a child who had six points
deducted during a nine-week period would earn an E in deportment for the nine
weeks.
Severe disruptions, however, will be handled differently. The student is immediately sent to the
principal or temporarily removed from the class. Students who behave appropriately will be rewarded with positive
notes, praise, and surprises. We always
discuss these rules as a class so that all students understand them.
I believe homework is important, because it is a valuable tool in
helping students make the most of the experiences in school. Homework will be assigned Monday through
Thursday and should take no more than thirty minutes. The student has assignments written in a homework notebook, and I
ask that a parent sign this each night, so I’m assured that the parent is aware of the
responsibilities of their child. I will
check all assignments and record them.
Children will also be rewarded by praise and other incentives when
homework is completed. If the homework
is not completed, the child will receive a 0. Often assignments will require no
written work.
Monday’s homework is usually reading a story from the Reading book.
Thursday’s homework is usually studying for the Spelling test which
is on Friday.
Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s homework vary according to the extra
needs of the students.
Parents, please feel free to write me a note in the homework notebook about any of your concerns.
At third grade we really don’t have parties, but we do have
refreshments. We will usually do this
three times a year: Halloween,
Christmas, and Valentine’s Day. The
refreshments are limited to cupcakes, cookies, chips, and drinks.
If parents wish to send special refreshments, provide a pizza
party, or do something else for the whole class on their child’s birthday, that
is great! I just need to know in
advance.
