RULES

1.  TALK ONLY WHEN ALLOWED.

2.  TREAT OTHERS THE WAY YOU WOULD WANT TO BE TREATED.

3.  RAISE HAND BEFORE TALKING AND GETTING OUT OF SEAT.

4.  KEEP HANDS AND FEET TO YOURSELF.

1ST TIME-WARNING-NAME ON BOARD.

2ND TIME-POINT TAKEN FROM CONDUCT CHART.

3RD TIME-SAME AS 2ND TIME PLUS LOSS OF 1ST RECESS.

4TH TIME-SAME AGAIN PLUS LOSS OF BOTH RECESSES.

5TH TIME-SAME AGAIN PLUS WRITTEN APOLOGY NOTE.

6TH TIME-SAME AS NUMBER 5, AGAIN, AND CALL TO HOME AND VISIT TO OFFICE.

                                                                       

REWARDS

EACH CHILD HAS A REWARD CHART ON HIS/HER LOCKER.  EACH CHILD IS REWARDED DAILY WITH POINTS ON THE CHART FOR HOMEWORK COMPLETED, FOLDER SIGNED AND RETURNED, NO POINTS FROM CONDUCT FOR THE DAY, PARTICIPATION, AND CLEAN WORK AREA.  AT THE END OF EACH WEEK EACH CHILD’S TOTAL POINTS WILL BE ADDED FOR REWARDS.

 

ASSIGNMENTS

CLASSWORK IS GIVEN DURING THE SCHOOL DAY IN PHONICS, READING, ENGLISH, SPELLING, HANDWRITING, MATH, SOCIAL STUDIES, AND SCIENCE.  EACH CHILD IS EXPECTED TO COMPLETE THE WORK AT SCHOOL.  IN CASE OF ILLNESS, YOU MAY CALL THE OFFICE, AND I WILL GET THE WORK READY AND SEND IT TO THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OFFICE FOR YOU TO PICK UP, COMPLETE, AND BRING BACK THE NEXT DAY.  IN CASE OF APPOINTMENTS THE WORK WILL BE GIVEN TO THE CHILD TO COMPLETE AND RETURN THE NEXT DAY.

HOMEWORK
HOMEWORK IS GIVEN DAILY ON DAYS THAT WE ARE AT SCHOOL.  THIS IS THE USUAL SCHEDULE, BUT IT IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.  PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD’S HOMEWORK FOLDER DAILY.

MONDAY-REREAD STORY FROM READER AND/OR MATH WORKSHEET

TUESDAY-MATH WORKSHEET AND/OR SCIENCE

WEDNESDAY-REREAD STORY FROM READER AND/OR MATH WORKSHEET

THURSDAY-STUDY FOR SPELLING AND READING TESTS

SUBJECTS

PHONICS (THIS SUBJECT IS INCLUDED IN THE READING GRADE.  WE WILL DO WORKSHEETS, PLAY PHONICS GAMES, AND DO ORAL EXERCISES.) NO TEST. 

 

READING (WE ARE USING A SERIES WITH TWO TEXTBOOKS.    AFTER 5 STORIES, WE WILL TAKE A UNIT TEST.  PLEASE PRACTICE THE ASSIGNED STORIES ON THE DESIGNATED HOMEWORK DAYS.  DURING READING, THE CHILDREN WILL READ IN SEVERAL DIFFERENT STYLES. (OUTLOUD-TOGETHER OR BY THEMSELVES, WITH A PARTNER, SILENTLY, AND IN GROUPS. I WILL USE THE WORKBOOK, ORAL READING, ORAL VOCABULARY, WEEKLY AND UNIT TESTS, AND PHONICS GRADE TO DECIDE THE READING GRADE. 

 

 

ENGLISH (WE HAVE A TEXT IN THE SAME READING SERIES AND AN OLD TEXT FROM WHICH I WILL COMPILE THE CHILDREN’S WORK.   WE WILL BE HAVING DAILY CLASS ASSIGNMENTS AS A GRADE IN ENGLISH.) NO TEST.

 

SPELLING (WE ALSO HAVE A TEXT IN THE SAME READING SERIES AND AN OLD TEXT FROM WHICH I WILL COMPILE THE CHILDREN’S WORK.   WE WILL HAVE A TEST EVERY FRIDAY (OR THE LAST DAY OF THE WEEK) ON THE REGULAR WORDS AND SOME OF THE OTHER WORD FORMS.  THE WORDS FOR EACH NINE WEEKS WILL BE IN THE HOMEWORK FOLDER.  PLEASE STUDY MORE THAN ONE NIGHT IF NECESSARY.  I WILL USE DAILY CLASS ASSIGNMENTS AND WEEKLY TESTS AS A GRADE.) 

 

MATH (WE WILL NOT ONLY USE THE MATH WORKBOOK, WE WILL USE MATH MANIPULATIVES, PLAY MATH GAMES, OR PLAY MATH COMPUTER GAMES.  WHEN WE COME TO THE END OF A UNIT, WE WILL TAKE A TEST.  I WILL GIVE YOU NOTIFICATION IN YOUR HOMEWORK FOLDER.  (EACH STUDENT’S MATH GRADE WILL BE BASED ON PARTICIPATION, WEEKLY GRADE, AND TEST GRADE.)

 

SCIENCE AND HEALTH WE ARE USING A TEXTBOOK AND OTHER AIDS WE WILL HAVE TESTS THIS YEAR.  ONCE AGAIN, I WILL NOTIFY YOU OF UP COMING TESTS.  I WILL USE TESTS, WORKBOOK PAGES, AND DAILY WORK FOR A GRADE IN SCIENCE AND HEALTH.

 

SOCIAL STUDIES WE WILL USE A TEXT FOR THIS SUBJECT, TOO.  NO TESTS.  I WILL USE WORKSHEETS, MAPS, AND DAILY PARTICIPATION FOR A GRADE IN THIS SUBJECT.

 

CONDUCT PART OF THE REWARD CHART.  THIS GOES ALONG WITH MY REWARDS/CONSEQUENCES.

 

HANDWRITING I WILL GRADE DAILY WORK EACH GRADE PERIOD.  WE WILL START CURSIVE AFTER CHRISTMAS.

 

COMPUTER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR FOR UP TO EIGHT WEEKS DEPENDING ON EACH INDIVIDUAL SECOND GRADE CHILD, THE CHILDREN WILL ATTEND THE FAST FORWARD PROGRAM.  THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO HELP IN PHONICS AND READING SKILLS.  MY TIME WILL BE FROM 8:30-10:00.  WE WILL WORK THE OTHER SUBJECTS AROUND THIS PROGRAM.  WE WILL ALSO PLAY CLASS COMPUTER GAMES IN ALL SUBJECTS WHEN ALL OTHER WORK IS COMPLETED.

PARTIES

BIRTHDAY TREATS MAY BE BROUGHT IN THE MORNING OR AT LUNCH.  LUNCH IS FROM 11:30AM-12:00PM, SO IF YOU BRING THEM THEN, PLEASE BE HERE FIVE MINUTES OR SO EARLY.  FOR HOLIDAYS, I WILL MAKE A SIGN UP SHEET IN MY WEEKLY PARENT NOTE FOR CUPCAKES, DRINKS, CHIPS, PLATES, NAPKINS, AND CANDY AND PRIZES FOR A TREATBAG.  WE USUALLY CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN, THANKSGIVING, CHRISTMAS, AND EASTER. WE EAT OUR TREATS AT LUNCH, AND IF THERE IS ENOUGH WE SAVE SOME FOR THE TWO RECESSES.

WHEN I INCLUDE A BOOK ORDER OR ORDERS, PLEASE MAKE ANY CHECK PAYABLE TO THE BOOK COMPANY.  FOR EXAMPLE: SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUBS.

A WEEKLY PARENT NOTE WILL BE SENT HOME EACH FRIDAY (OR THE LAST DAY OF THE WEEK) IN THE HOMEWORK FOLDER ALONG WITH ALL OF THE GRADED PAPERS.  IN THIS NOTE I WILL INFORM YOU OF SKILLS COVERED, AND UPCOMING TESTS AND EVENTS.
