The Oneida Special School District Board of Education met in regular session on Thursday, December 6, 2007, at 6:00 p.m. in the Oneida Special School District Board of Education Conference Room.  The following members were present:  Dr. Danny Cross, Mrs. Dorothy Watson, Mrs. Lori Phillips-Jones, and Chairperson Nancy Williamson.    Mr. Henry Baggett and Sandra Cornelius were also present. 

 

Chairperson Williamson called the meeting to order. Dr. Cross opened with prayer.

 

            Chairperson Williamson presented the board agenda for approval.  Mrs. Watson made a motion, with a second by Mrs. Phillips-Jones, to approve the board agenda as presented.  Vote was taken and motion carried.

 

Chairperson Williamson then presented the following board policy for board consideration on second reading.  Mrs. Watson made a motion, with a second by Mrs. Phillips-Jones, to approve the following board policy on second reading.  Vote was taken and motion carried.

Board Policy (Second Reading):

A.  Textbook Selection, Distribution, and Care 4.401

 

With no other business to be brought before the board, Chairperson Williamson recognized Mr. Baggett for the Superintendent’s Report.


1.                  Substitutes: 

A.        Misty Bryant

B.        Holly Rose

C.        April King

2.                  Donna Tompkins will be recognized on December 18 as Lottery Educator of the Week.

3.                  Eddie Hill has resigned as janitor at OHS; action will be taken at the February meeting.

4.                  Mr. Baggett discussed the Boys and Girls Club Agreement with the board.  The contract had been returned to the board with the requested revisions. After a lengthy discussion, Mr. Shoemaker made a motion, with a second by Dr. Cross, to approve the Boys and Girls Club Agreement as presented.  Vote was taken and motion carried.  

5.                  A copy of Indian Ink, the high school’s first newspaper,  was handed out to each board member.  The OHS journalism class and Mrs. Duncan were commended on an excellent job.

6.                  Flu-Mist will be offered to all students who return permission forms.  St. Mary’s will be overseeing the administration. 

7.                  Mr. Baggett stated that he attended a meeting today in Campbell County with the Tennessee Bar Association.  There is an opportunity for 20-30 high school students to attend actual Supreme Court session, 8th judicial circuit court on May 8th.  Students would have the opportunity to have lunch with justices and a question and answer session with attorneys.

8.                  A work session was scheduled for Thursday, January 10, 2008 instead of the regular January board meeting.

9.                  GEM Awards:  Lisa Anderson, Jodi Wright, Robert Queener, Kelly Posey

 

Chairperson Williamson then recognized each building principal for a Principal’s Report.

 

Chairperson Williamson recognized Ms. Cheryl Butler, Oneida Middle School Principal.

1.      Everything is going well at OMS.  It is a very busy and hectic time of the year.

2.      The basketball team is playing at Wartburg tonight.

3.      Student summary reports will be mailed out tomorrow.

4.      The OMS Beta Club is currently selling angel ornaments.  

5.      2008 Sports Calendars are now available with the profit going to the OMS boys soccer team. 

 

Chairperson Williamson recognized Mr. Jimmy May, Oneida High School Principal.

1.      The band concert is tonight at 7:00 in the gym.

2.      OHS girls basketball is playing at Greenback tonight.

3.      The November/December newsletter will be mailed tomorrow.

4.      Mr. May commended Mrs. Duncan and the journalism students on a great job publishing Indian Ink.

5.      ACT will be given on Saturday.

6.      Semester exams will be December 17 and 18.

7.      Activities are now beginning for senior students involved in National Honor Society.

 

With no further business to come before the board, Mr. Shoemaker made a motion, with a second by Dr. Cross, to adjourn.
