The Oneida Special School District Board of Education met in regular session on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at 6:00 p.m. in the Oneida Special School District Board of Education Conference Room. The following members were present: Dr. Danny Cross, Mrs. Dorothy Watson, Mrs. Lori Phillips-Jones, Mr. Floyd H. (Brom) Shoemaker, II, and Chairperson Nancy Williamson. Mr. Henry Baggett and Lori Marcum were also present.
Chairperson Williamson called the meeting to order. Dr. Cross opened with prayer.
In the first order of business, Chairperson Williamson noted that corrections needed to be made to the November and December 2007 minutes which were approved in the February meeting. Mr. Floyd H. (Brom) Shoemaker’s name was left off the list of members present for those meetings. A motion was made by Dr. Cross, with a second by Mrs. Watson, to amend the November 1, 2007 and December 6, 2007 minutes to list Mr. Shoemaker’s attendance at the meetings. Vote was taken and motion carried.
Chairperson Williamson presented the board agenda for approval. Mr. Shoemaker made a motion, with a second by Dr. Cross, to approve the board agenda as presented. Vote was taken and motion carried.
Chairperson Williamson then presented the consent agenda for board approval. Mrs. Watson made a motion, with a second by Mrs. Phillips-Jones, to approve the consent agenda as follows. Vote was taken and motion carried.
Consent Agenda :

Approval of board minutes from the February 7, 2008 meeting.
Chairperson Williamson then presented fundraiser requests for board approval. Dr. Cross made a motion, with a second by Mr. Shoemaker, to approve the following fundraiser requests. Vote was taken and motion carried.

Chairperson Williamson then presented an amendment to policy 2.806, Bids and Quotations, for board consideration. The current policy states that bids must be obtained for purchases over $5,000. With the policy amendment proposed to the board, the amount would be increased to $10,000. Mr. Shoemaker made a motion, with a second by Mrs. Phillips-Jones, to approve the board policy amendment on first reading. Vote was taken and motion carried.
Chairperson Williamson then presented the proposed 2008-2009 school calendar and the 2009-2010 school calendar for board consideration. After a brief discussion, Mrs. Phillips-Jones made a motion, with a second by Dr. Cross, to approve the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 school calendars. Vote was taken and motion carried.
Chairperson Williamson then presented a letter of resignation from Mrs. Danielle Payne for board approval. Mrs. Watson made a motion, with a second by Dr. Cross, to accept the letter of resignation. Vote was taken and motion carried.
Chairperson Williamson then presented Safe Schools Budget Amendments for board approval. Mrs. Watson made a motion, with a second by Mr. Shoemaker, to approve the safe school budget amendments. Vote was taken and motion carried.
Chairperson Williamson then presented a request to amend the 2007-2008 school calendar. Mr. Baggett stated that April 25, which was originally scheduled for staff development, would be a regular school day due to the Missoula Children’s Theatre. Mrs. Phillips-Jones made a motion, with a second by Dr. Cross, to approve the calendar amendment. Vote was taken and motion carried.
Chairperson Williamson then recognized two staff members who have recently received their doctorate. Awards were given to Dr. Jeanny Hatfield and Dr. Dara Kline. The board congratulated both on their accomplishments.
With no other business to be brought before the board, Chairperson Williamson recognized Mr. Baggett for the Superintendent’s Report.

Chairperson Williamson then recognized each building principal for a Principal’s Report.
Chairperson Williamson recognized Mr. Johnny Strunk, Oneida Elementary School Principal.
1. This is a very busy time for Oneida Elementary.
2. Tomorrow (March 7) ends the 3rd nine weeks.
3. There will be an Informational Meeting for all parents of incoming Kindergarten students on March 10 at 6:30 in the OES cafeteria.
4. Kindergarten registration will be March 13 from 9:00 – 11:30 at OES.
5. PreSchool registration will be April 3 and 4. Parents can pick up packets at OES.
6. TCAP testing will be April 14 – 18.
7. Mr. Strunk reported a significant increase in breakfast participation since the new breakfast program has been implemented.
Chairperson Williamson recognized Ms. Cheryl Butler, Oneida Middle School Principal.
1. OMS is also having a very busy time.
2. The nine weeks ends tomorrow. Grade cards will go out Friday, March 14.

baseball and softball have had games scheduled, but the weather is not
cooperating. Hopefully, they will get to
begin play soon. The baseball game will
play on March 20 at
4. Language Arts and Reading Fair was this week at OMS. June West was a guest speaker and there was also a book fair for parents and students.
5. Next week will be the math fair, “All About PI”.

Mrs. Phillips-Jones asked if a calling system had been considered for the school. Mr. Baggett stated that he had looked into such systems and is in the process of getting quotes.
With no further business to come before the board, Mrs. Watson made a motion, with a second by Dr. Cross, to adjourn. Vote was taken and motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:27 p.m.
